KS: Kansas House votes to raise taxes, avert massive budget cuts

The push was inspired by a 2011 speech by “Jersey Shore” reality TV star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi that cost Rutgers University students $32,000. Snooki advised students to “study hard, but party harder.”

MI: Michigan’s Snyder signs anti-gay adoption bill

The law will allow faith-based adoption groups in Michigan to refuse to serve prospective parents, like same-sex or unmarried couples, if doing so would violate the groups’ religious beliefs. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder’s action came as the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule on whether same-sex marriages should be legal in Michigan and several other states.

LA: Louisiana legislators agree on higher cigarette tax
