LA: Louisiana higher education has $282 million at stake in fight over governor’s ‘no tax’ pledge
Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal could reject as much as $371 million worth of tax and fee increases approved by state lawmakers because they don’t include an offset to bring them into line with the governor’s “no tax” pledge. About $282 million of that total is slated for the Louisiana State University system, the University of New Orleans, LSU’s medical school in New Orleans, and other higher education campuses across the state.
