US: Moves taken on both coasts toward $15 minimum wage
The University of California and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors took steps to raise the minimum wage to $15 over the next several years. New York similarly proposed a $15 minimum for fast-food workers. And the Washington, D.C., Board of Elections approved language on a ballot initiative that would raise the minimum in the District to $15 by 2020 if voters approve it.
ND. Appeals court approves tossing North Dakota’s ‘heartbeat’ abortion law
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court ruling that struck down a North Dakota law that made it a felony for a doctor to perform an abortion when a fetal heartbeat can be detected.
NJ: New Jersey pension fund not expected to deliver projected return
New Jersey’s public pension system isn’t expected to meet its targeted return on investment for the fiscal year that ended in June. This time last year the fund, which is one of the most underfunded in the country, was worth $81 billion. It is estimated to end the most recent fiscal year at $78 billion.

National cancer experts urged curbs on the rapidly escalating price of oncology drugs, warning millions of Americans and their families are being affected by the high costs. A commentary signed by 118 top cancer doctors said that every new drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last year was priced at more than $120,000 a year.
FL: Florida warned to stay away from armadillos
Florida health and wildlife officials are telling residents to steer clear of armadillos following a spike in leprosy cases. So far this year, nine cases have been reported by Florida residents, according to the state’s Department of Health.
