All Races for Chief Election Officials Decided

Following the 2014 midterm, we posted a list of the results of races for states’ chief election officials. Several were undetermined at that point but have been resolved in the weeks since:

  • Alaska: Lt. Gov.-elect Byron Mallot (I).
  • California: Secretary of State-elect Alex Padilla (D).
  • Connecticut: Incumbent Secretary of State Denise Merrill (D) won re-election.

Additionally, two states have new governors who will select the chief election officials. Governor-elect Greg Abbott chose Cameron County Judge Carolos Cascos to be the new secretary of state of Texas. This appointment must be confirmed by the Texas Senate. Governor-elect Tom Wolf has not yet made any announcement about a new secretary of state in Pennsylvania.
