Countdown to the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act

One year from today, the landmark Wilderness Act will turn 50. President Obama kicked off the commemoration this week when he declared September to be National Wilderness Month.

For the next 12 months, Americans will celebrate the historic legislation that was created to ensure that the nation's wild places remain that way for future generations. Wilderness walks, photography exhibits, seminars, and film screenings are just a few of the events that will raise awareness of and acknowledge the importance of the country's unique wild lands.
