How Much Do You Know About Our Ocean?

Learn how it supports wildlife, people, and economies—and why a new partnership to protect our ocean is vital

The ocean accounts for 97% of Earth’s water and is home to 200,000 species, with potentially millions more that are yet to be discovered. But from coral reefs and tiny phytoplankton to sea turtles and whales, the ocean’s diverse marine life is in danger of disappearing.

To help protect ocean biodiversity and rich marine ecosystems, the Blue Nature Alliance is working to protect 18 million square kilometers of our ocean. By establishing new marine protected areas (MPAs) and working to improve the management of existing ones, the alliance will support the growing call from scientists, governments and communities to protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030.
