Wen Bo

Research

Wen Bo is the program director of the National Geographic Air and Water Conservation Fund in China and the founder of Ocean Communications. Wen’s Pew fellowship project was aimed at reducing the poaching and illegal trade of endangered marine species in East Asia (China, Japan, and South Korea); strengthening the institutional capacity of marine conservation nongovernmental organizations in China; and fostering a network of marine conservation groups throughout East Asia. The project focused on select endangered species, including spotted seals, various seabirds, sea turtles, coral species, sharks, and salmon. He investigated poaching of these species and compiled reports on their current threats and trade status. To raise awareness, Wen published and distributed media reports and developed campaign strategies to promote governmental measures, policy changes, and consumer actions that could reduce stress on these endangered species. Additionally, he supported and fostered the creation of new marine conservation grassroots groups in China. To learn more about Wen, visit his bio.
