PROFILE

Kara Coleman, Ph.D., manages Pew’s biomedical programs, which include the Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences, the Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences, and the Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research. These initiatives support groundbreaking research in the biomedical sciences by funding outstanding, competitively selected scholars early in their careers.

Before joining Pew, Coleman developed an expertise in science writing and oversaw the development of medical content as scientific director at Ethos Health Communications.

Coleman holds a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from the College of William & Mary and a doctorate in cell and molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she studied the role of the BRCA1 breast cancer susceptibility gene in DNA repair.
