PROFILE

Alison Shelton conducts research on access to and participation in retirement savings plans such as 401(k)s and auto-IRAs as part of Pew’s retirement savings team.

Before joining Pew, Shelton worked at AARP’s Public Policy Institute where she served as an expert resource on Social Security and disability policy. Shelton also spent time at the Congressional Research Service, where she advised members of Congress and their staffs on Social Security and unemployment insurance, and at the U.S. Treasury Department where she worked on domestic and international financial policy. Shelton has also authored or co-authored numerous papers on aspects of America’s retirement system and the Social Security program.

Shelton holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Smith College and a master’s in public policy from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
