Research

Our goal is to understand the molecular events by which mammalian neurons modulate their sensitivity to external stimuli. To address these issues, we developed a new approach combining live cell imaging and molecular biology to examine the trafficking and signaling of surface receptors in real-time. We have focused our work on two different types of receptors; the G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR), the largest family of receptors in the central nervous system and the AMPA-type glutamate receptor, mediator of most of the fast excitatory transmission in the central nervous system.
Our results present new information regarding the location; regulation and signaling of these receptors in real-time, providing unprecedented insight into neuronal function facilitating the search for more effective and specific therapies for complex CNS disorders.
