Over the protests of 10 of its own members, Republicans in the Indiana Senate narrowly voted to ban nearly all abortions in the state. The move puts Indiana on track to be one of the first states to pass new abortion restrictions after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade.

Alaska has recorded its first case of monkeypox. Anchorage Health Department officials say the person who tested positive is an Anchorage resident and is isolating at home. Officials say the person did not require hospitalization and was a close contact of a person who recently traveled out of state.

Petitioners for Responsible Growth Arkansas gathered the required number of valid signatures, moving the proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize recreational marijuana one step closer to appearing on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

Lightning sparked wildfires in western Nebraska that forced evacuations near Cedar Canyon and Carter Canyon, destroying at least one home. Some roads were closed.
MI: Michigan submits M electric vehicle charging plan to feds

Michigan plans to build 127 fast chargers along the state’s major highways by 2026, under an electric vehicle charging plan submitted to the federal government. The plan would unlock $110 million in federal funding over the next five years through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure funding program created by the bipartisan infrastructure law.
TN: Tennessee governor’s embrace of conservative Michigan college sours
The president of Michigan’s Hillsdale College was riding high earlier this year when he announced plans to launch 50 charter schools in Tennessee after Republican Gov. Bill Lee originally asked for 100. Six months later, that relationship has cooled after the Hillsdale leader made disparaging comments about educators.
