Delegates Speak: American Samoa on Voting Rights

Aug. 29, 2008, 1:00 p.m. EDT

Q. What serious issue in your state would you like the next president to address?

What concerns me most is that U.S. citizens are not allowed to vote … I know some people are trying to get something done that allows U.S. citizens in some of the territories to be able to vote in national elections. We voted in our caucuses, but when it comes to a national election, we can't vote.

-American Somoa delegate Marilyn AhChing, 64, of Nu'uuli, interviewed by Pamela M. Prah, Stateline.org.
