Vera Coelho focuses on development of policies and strategies designed to end overfishing in Northwestern Europe. Her fields of expertise include the setting of fishing opportunities, development of multiannual plans, and implementation of the landing obligation in the western waters of the European Union.

Before joining Pew, Coelho managed Wetlands International’s European programme based in the Netherlands and was assistant director of Seas at Risk, based in Brussels.

Coelho holds a first degree in modern languages and literature from the Universidade de Coimbra in Portugal and a master’s in European studies from the University of Siena in Italy.
