Mimi Majumdar Narayan

PROFILE

Debarati (Mimi) Majumdar Narayan, Ph.D., works on The Pew Charitable Trusts’ health programs. She previously worked on the Health Impact Project, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Pew that encouraged state, local, and national organizations to consider health in decisions across sectors, such as housing and transportation. Narayan led research efforts and provided strategic guidance to community-based initiatives designed to equitably improve health outcomes.

Before joining Pew, Narayan served as the founder and director of Catalyze Research and Consulting, an organization that provided strategic services to support healthy communities. Her efforts focused on serving the needs of marginalized communities facing historically rooted health inequities, particularly those resulting from built-environment conditions. Narayan’s successful work with communities has been featured in national and international publications. She was also an adjunct faculty member at Arizona State University with a focus on promoting health equity.

Narayan holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from Bangalore University in India, a masters in interior architecture from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a doctorate in environmental design and planning from Arizona State University. Narayan is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, where she teaches environmental psychology.
