PROFILE

Jen Sawada provides strategic guidance and project management support for the Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy Project. In that capacity, she focuses on campaigns that work to promote a conservation network of marine protected areas, ecological corridors, and fisheries management in the Eastern Tropical Pacific and Pacific. Sawada previously led an initiative under Pew’s international fisheries project to reduce bycatch and protect nursery and spawning areas in fisheries. She also directed Pew’s efforts to highlight the impact of overfishing on sharks to help rebuild their populations through habitat protection and catch and trade regulation—work that included encouraging countries in the Pacific, Latin America, Caribbean, West Africa, and Southern Asia to adopt and implement domestic measures to protect sharks.

Before joining Pew, Sawada served as a campaign associate at the American Lands Alliance, with a focus on policy and legislation to protect and restore forests in the United States.

Sawada holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental systems ecology, behavior, and evolution from the University of California, San Diego.
