Angelo O’Connor Villagomez supports the Blue Nature Alliance, which aims to conserve 18 million square kilometers of ocean through initiatives focused on marine protection. He works across multiple sites to integrate scientific research and culture into the alliance’s work and explain the value of large marine protected areas. Villagomez first worked with Pew to help secure the designation of the Mariana Trench Marine National Monument. Later, as a member of Pew’s global shark conservation campaign, he assisted with the passage of more than two dozen shark conservation laws in Pacific and Caribbean island states.

Before joining Pew, Villagomez worked for the League of Conservation Voters, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance.   

Villagomez holds bachelor’s degrees in biology from the University of Richmond and environmental policy from Rollins College.
