PROFILE

Jérôme Petit manages the Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy project’s work in the Mediterranean region and France. In doing so, he works with many local partners to develop and advance campaign strategies with the goal of helping to establish and improve a conservation network of effective marine protected areas in these regions. He previously directed the project’s campaign in French Polynesia.

Before joining Pew, Petit managed projects in developing countries for the European Commission and represented the European Union during negotiations under the Convention on Biological Diversity. He also worked for the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Brussels on climate change and biodiversity policy. Additionally, Petit coordinated biodiversity inventories in the Pacific region as a researcher at the University of California and worked on conservation projects at research centers in Australia, Burkina Faso, and France.

Petit holds master’s degrees in environmental science from Institut supérieur d’Agriculture et d’Agro-alimentaire Rhône-Alpes and political sciences from Université Bordeaux IV Montesquieu, and a doctorate in life science from École Pratique des Hautes Études, La Sorbonne Paris.
