Andrew Clayton

PROFILE

Andrew Clayton directs Pew’s ecosystem conservation and fisheries work, which aims to improve ecosystem resilience through better international fisheries governance, using science-based policy development and advocacy. He is based in London. Prior to his current work at Pew, Clayton oversaw Pew’s efforts to end overfishing in northwestern Europe.

Before joining Pew, Clayton gained extensive experience in fisheries management working in the UK Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs. During his 17 years in government, he held a variety of positions dealing with EU environmental, fisheries, and agricultural policy, including developing UK policy, advising ministers, and working with a wide range of nongovernmental and industry organizations.

Clayton holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth.
