Pew, Partners Welcome Senate Legislation to Improve Regulation of Over-the-Counter Drugs

The Pew Charitable Trusts, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American Public Health Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, the National Association of County and City Health Officials, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine thanked Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Bob Casey (D-PA) in an April 23 letter for introducing S. 2315, a bill that would reform regulation of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.

The legislation incorporates Pew’s principles for such reform. It would eliminate the burdensome rule-making process for changing OTC monographs and allow for more funding for the Food and Drug Administration through new user fees.
