Pew Comments on Antimicrobial Use Data Collection in Food Animals

On Sept. 9, The Pew Charitable Trusts submitted comments on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s request for approval to collect antimicrobial use data.

The comments urge the agency to begin the planned collection of new antimicrobial use data associated with the National Animal Health Monitoring System as quickly as possible, to continue the data collection for more than the presently requested three years, and to consider expanding the data collection beyond the current scope of antimicrobial use in swine and feedlot cattle.
