Health Impact Project Offers Recommendations on Education Policy

Studies show a strong correlation between a person’s education level and his or her health over a life span.  Because of this linkage, decision-makers should consider the potential health consequences of proposed education policies.

The Department of Education recently requested comments on a proposed rule that would, among other things, require local educational agencies to conduct a needs assessment for low-performing schools. The Health Impact Project issued comments and several recommendations in response to this proposal. A full health impact assessment report will be released early in 2017.
