Alabama Joins ERIC

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill announced today that his state will become the 14th member of the Electronic Registration Information Center. ERIC is a multistate data-sharing partnership that uses secure, state-of-the-art technology to provide election officials with the data they need to keep voter lists complete and up-to-date.

When their state joins ERIC, election officials in Alabama will receive comprehensive information when voters move or die or when unregistered citizens become eligible to vote.

Since its launch in 2012, ERIC has helped states identify more than 117,000 deceased individuals, 2.7 million Americans who have moved from the addresses in their voter files, and over 42,000 duplicate records. These numbers are expected to increase as more states join ERIC.

In addition to Alabama, the other members are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.
