Supermoms Against Superbugs 2014 Advocacy Day

On Wednesday, May 7, more than 30 moms, dads, and other caregivers visited Washington to demand action to end antibiotic overuse on industrial farms.

These supermoms know that the more antibiotics are used, the less effective they become. This is especially troubling considering that up to 70 percent of antibiotic use in farm animals, and 50 percent of such use in people, is unnecessary. This overuse has resulted in the development of drug-resistant bacteria that sicken at least 2 million Americans and kill 23,000 every year.

The good news is that this trend is reversible. We just need to persuade the Food and Drug Administration and Congress to take action today.

		Meet the Supermoms and Superdads Our 33 moms and dads hail from 15 states across the country and have diverse backgrounds. They include doctors on the front lines of the superbug battle, parents of children who fought resistant infections, and farmers who have committed to raising their livestock without antibiotic overuse.
