Wilderness = Jobs

At the annual summer Outdoor Retailer Show this year, the Conservation Alliance collected several hundred postcards signed by outdoor gear and clothing manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers calling on Representative Doc Hastings (R-WA), chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, to move the 20 public land conservation measures currently before Congress.

The postcards note that "outdoor recreation contributes $646 billion annually to the U.S. economy and supports 6.1 million jobs nationwide. Protected public lands are the infrastructure for the outdoor industry. These wild areas provide places for our customers to use the products that we make and sell."

The “WILDERNESS=JOBS” postcards were signed by outdoor industry folks from more than 20 states, who reminded Rep. Hastings that “protecting our public lands is an investment in our economic future.”
