David R. Cline

Research

David Cline is a wildlife conservationist for the Kodiak Brown Bear Trust in Anchorage, Alaska. Cline used his Pew fellowship to develop the Coastal Protection Program in Beringia, the now-submerged “crossroads of continents” that linked Asia and North America during the Ice Age. He negotiated protocols for joint work to achieve better protection and management of the Bering Sea region, including a protocol with the World Wildlife Fund to help it launch a Bering Sea Biodiversity Conservation Program. As part of his fellowship, Cline also worked as a negotiator in agreements that affect habitat and wildlife throughout the Arctic region. He represented wildlife conservation interests during the negotiations between the United States and Russia on the Agreement for the Conservation and Management of the Alaska-Chukotka Polar Bear Population, which was signed in February 1998.
