Research

Alexey Yablokov died in Moscow, Russia, on Jan. 9, 2017. Yablokoy had been a Pew Marine Fellow since 1994. He was a professor at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow and a prominent Russian environmental advisor. His Pew fellowship supported work to develop a biomonitoring-phenetic approach as a quick, affordable, and noninvasive tool that can be used for early detection of environmental contamination and to study natural populations. He conducted field work on several wildlife species and plants, both terrestrial and marine, completing two major environmental health assessments in collaboration with experts from many regions of the former Soviet Union.
