Election Analysis

Issues and terms such as “hanging chads,” HAVA (the Help America Vote Act of 2002), absentee ballots or touch-screen voting machines burst into news stories and onto the public agenda starting with the Florida recount in 2000 and continuing in the election cycles since.

Electionline.org, a part of the Pew Center on the States’ Make Voting Work initiative, focuses on the issues and best practices related to election administration. It tracks and analyzes states’ progress on the Help America Vote Act of 2002, the federal law enacted in response to the problems documented in the 2000 election.

The project informs journalists, policy makers, election officials, academics and the general public about the latest trends and issues in election practices. It is the nation’s only nonpartisan, non-advocacy Web-based information center dedicated specifically to election reform.

The project’s Web site includes the latest news, analysis and reports. It offers special newsletters and email alerts to the media, the election community and citizens on important election reform topics. The site is a centralized source of data and information on a topic on which discussion tends to be decentralized.

The project also provides research on questions related to election reform and sponsors conferences that enable policymakers, journalists and other interested parties to share ideas, successes and failures.
