Dance Advance

Dance Advance sponsors initiatives that advance both artistic excellence and greater awareness of dance in the Philadelphia region.

Through a highly competitive process, it awards full funding for compelling projects by choreographers and dance companies in the five-county Philadelphia region.

Dance Advance, administered by the University of the Arts and part of the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, seeks out projects that will challenge the notions of “business as usual” in the dance world. These programs typically stand out as challenging and important works. In particular, Dance Advance seeks to reward risk by financing projects that otherwise would not have been feasible or would have been more difficult to stage. Dance Advance grants are awarded on a competitive basis and are selected by a distinguished national panel of experts.

In addition to its funding role, Dance Advance works to increase the interest of local and national media as well as of artists and arts institutions outside the region in the works that are produced in Philadelphia.
