Jobless Rate Inches Down to 9%

11/04/2011 - Despite encouraging productivity statistics and recent positive news from Wall Street, the nation's job market expanded, albeit barely, adding 80,000 jobs in October, the U.S. Labor Department reported Friday morning.

The unemployment rate was 9 percent, down from September's 9.1 percent.


Meanwhile, nearly one in three of the nation's unemployed have been out of work for more than a year, according to a report released Wednesday by the Pew Charitable Trusts' Fiscal Analysis Initiative.
