Joshua S. Reichert Discusses the Mariana Trench Marine National Monument

03/19/2009 - In January 2009 President George W. Bush designated three marine national monuments, including the waters surround the Northern Mariana Islands and the Mariana Trench.  This monument includes the unique geology and rare submarine ecology generated by the collision of two of the Earth’s great tectonic plates, the Pacific and Philippine plates.

Joshua S. Reichert, the managing director of the Pew Environment Group, discusses the impact that this ruling will have on conservation efforts in this important natural resource.
