Support for Marine Reserves

08/26/2008 - President Bush issued a memorandum signaling the administration’s willingness to declare two large marine reserves in the Pacific Ocean — one around Johnston Atoll, Rose Atoll and Wake Island in the central Pacific, and one to the west that would include the Marianas Trench, the deepest spot in the world’s oceans.


“The devil is in the details in how these are dedicated or established,” said Joshua S. Reichert, managing director of the Pew Environment Group, a nonprofit group based in Philadelphia.
