04/05/2007 - The scariest birthday I ever celebrated was my 18th. I was a senior in high school, with 10 weeks until I would age out of Iowa's foster care system. I was worried about where I might be on my 19th birthday.While most people associate birthdays with a celebration, many foster children find their birthdays overlooked. Sadly, each year about 20,000 children in foster care "celebrate" their birthdays like I did, by aging out of foster care without a legal family to depend upon.
