03/20/2006 - As Nicole's foster-care dad since she was 6 weeks old, Kevin Trudeau saw his grandniece's first steps and heard her first word, "Hi."He plans to adopt Nicole, now 22 months old, and maybe her older sisters Ashlynn, 4, and Emily, 7.
"I'm temporarily putting my life on hold for them," says Trudeau, 40, a maintenance superintendent for the City of West Hollywood, Calif.
As a single man, he's an unlikely adoptive parent. Yet he shares a trait increasingly common among those adopting children from foster care: He is a relative.
