Together with the New America Foundation and the Center for Financial Services Innovation, the Pew Health Group is coordinating a symposium to address the need for safe and affordable credit products for consumers, particularly those underserved by banks.

Rep. Barney Frank, Chairman, House Committee on Financial Services and Marty Gruenberg, Vice Chairman, FDIC will be among the guests at this event.

This is part of Pew’s Safe Banking Opportunities Project efforts to develop better banking options for low and moderate income consumers, especially the underbanked, and jumpstart a dialogue on potential policy solutions. Panels of industry experts, academics, senior agency staff and consumer advocates will discuss what has been tried to date to address this issue, what we have learned from those efforts, and what new ideas and innovations are being tested and brought online.

This event will take place on October 23, 2009 from 8:00 am – 1:30 pm at the U.S. Capitol.
