Californians’ priorities for state government are strikingly similar to those of residents in four of the nation’s other most fiscally stressed states, according to the first multistate survey by PPIC and the Pew Center on the States. But in each of the five states—Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, and New York—the public’s views conflict with budget realities.
