The Pew Charitable Trusts se une al Consejo de la Isla de Pitcairn en elogio al Gobierno de Su Majestad por haber asignado 320.465 mi2 (unos 830.000 km2) como parque marino en las aguas remotas del archipiélago Pitcairn, en el gcéano Pacífico Sur. El anuncio de la Oficina de Relaciones Exteriores y del Commonwealth del Reino Unido acompaña la implementación piloto del programa de vigilancia que se realizó allí durante un año. Para este esquema, se empleó la plataforma tecnológica del proyecto Eyes on the Seas (Ojos en los Mares), que desarrollaron conjuntamente Pew y Satellite Applications Catapult (del Reino Unido) con el fin de controlar regiones oceánicas lejanas.
