Patients benefit when physicians and researchers collaborate with the private sector to advance the development of effective new drugs and medical devices. However, the advice and prescriptions that doctors give should be based on sound science and the individual patient’s needs. Today, there is widespread concern about the extensive financial relationships between providers and industry. Pew works to ensure transparency in physician-industry relationships and promotes policies to reduce or manage conflicts of interest that could affect patient care. Our work supports the creation of new policies at medical schools and professional medical associations, and it has successfully advocated for state and federal disclosure laws.
