As part of our series looking at the value of home visiting programs, Police Chief Patty Patterson of Sumter, South Carolina, argues that high-quality programs can reduce crime over both the short and long-term. Voluntary home visitation has also been shown to reduce low birth weight births, build literacy, improve test scores and lead to increased employment for both mothers and their children.
