Over the past 20 years, federal investments in research and development (R&D) for crude oil and fossil fuels have increased significantly. Meanwhile, R&D in renewable energy has dropped by almost 20% since 1980, and continues to remain stagnant today. At a time when Americans need innovative energy solutions, Congress should be supporting policies that invest in clean, new energy technologies, instead of status-quo spending.
