Online Voter Lookup Tools

Return to Election Data Dispatches

How do voters find the information they need on and before Election Day? Many voters turn to online resources, such as state election websites, to find polling locations, the status of absentee ballots, and other key information before casting their votes. Pew has tracked online lookup tools since 2008 and recently released an infographic detailing which tools were made available to voters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2012.

The vast majority of states now have tools allowing voters to check their registration status and find their polling places. Less than half the states have tools to check the status of provisional ballots. California and Vermont are the only states that had none of these tools.
