Are Healthy Foods Really More Expensive? It Depends on How You Measure the Price

To examine the assumption that healthier foods cost more, USDA’s Economic Research Service conducted an investigation comparing prices of healthy and less healthy foods. Researchers found it all depends on how you measure the price—price per calorie, price of edible weight or price of average portion.
