New Hampshire Voter ID Update

We noted late last year that New Hampshire was, for the first time, going to send confirmation letters to voters who arrived at the polls without the ID required by the state’s new law and had to sign affidavits before voting.

The state has begun this process. In November, 5,424 voters signed affidavits on Election Day, and all were sent letters on January 4. These voters are required to return a postcard acknowledging receipt of the letter within 90 days.

As of January 11, 2,266 of the postcards had been returned, and 211 letters were returned as undeliverable. The secretary of state’s office will look into each undeliverable letter, and if an explanation cannot be determined, a list of affidavits needing further investigation will be compiled and sent to the attorney general’s office.
