Waiting to Vote in Combined Locks, Wisconsin

During June’s recall election, the average time voters waited in line in Combined Locks, Wisconsin was one hour. The jurisdiction has one polling place, where 1,588 voters cast ballots. 

Village Administrator Sean Hutchison said the average wait time during the 2008 presidential election was 90 minutes, when approximately 1,800 residents voted. He said the problem is not the time it takes to actually cast a ballot, but the time it takes to check in at the polling place.

Hutchison said that they plan to address the problem by splitting the poll books, which he hopes will reduce the wait time during November’s presidential election to 30-45 minutes. This will also require at least three additional poll workers.
