Seabed Mining Project

Pew's project on seabed mining is a worldwide effort to establish science-based rules for the extraction of minerals from the deep seafloor in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

The project will work directly with the International Seabed Authority, governments, scientists, and stakeholders to safeguard ecologically important areas from mining and to establish standards that reduce harm to the deep-sea ecosystems where mining is allowed. The ISA is expected to finalize regulations on mining and seabed protections by the end of 2018.
