Research

Roberto Enriquez-Andrade is a professor at the Autonomous University of Baja California, where he specializes in coastal conservation using economic and market incentives for enhanced governance of marine resources. With his Pew fellowship, Enríquez-Andrade conducted a social, ecological, and economic analysis of forces causing degradation of coastal marine ecosystems on the Baja California peninsula. The data was used to develop and implement market and property-rights-based management incentives that encourage local communities to take an active role in conservation measures and enforcement. Results serve as a model in coastal regions throughout Mexico and Latin America.
