The Land of Enchantment’s unique wild landscapes include deserts, canyons, rivers, and mountains.  New Mexico’s culture is enriched by the traditions and language of its diverse population, including many Native American tribes.  A half-million acres of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks area of New Mexico, recently designated as a national monument, will protect volcanic fields, historic trails, and native archeological sites.  The 47th state is home to federal high-tech research facilities and a strong tourism industry, but also had the third highest poverty rate in 2012.
