The Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks area in southern New Mexico is one step closer to permanent protection. http://www.organmountains.org.

New Mexico Sens. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich introduced legislation that would provide permanent protection to the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks, an important step in ensuring that this wilderness jewel can be passed down to future generations.

The Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks are home to historic and cultural sites like the Butterfield Stagecoach Trail and Billy the Kid's Rock. Permanent protection would allow hunters, hikers, and wilderness enthusiasts to continue enjoying these sites and would provide an economic boon to the local community. The U.S. loses 6,000 acres of open space every day. Learn more about protecting the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks and other American wild lands at: http://www.pewenvironment.org/wilderness.
