Students Prepare Healthy Recipes in National Cooking Contest

In June 2014, teams of students from 10 cities competed in the national Cooking up Change contest at the U.S. Department of Education headquarters in Washington. Each team was challenged to create a tasty, affordable meal that meets national nutrition standards for school lunches and can be easily replicated in a typical school kitchen. After the competition, the student chefs visited Capitol Hill to talk to Members of Congress and their staffs about the need for healthier school food and to share lessons from their firsthand experiences with school nutrition standards.
