Press Briefing: Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Pew Environment Group hosted a media phone briefing on the upcoming meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC).

Beginning Dec. 2, 25 member governments will gather for a week in Manila, Philippines, to discuss conservation and management of tuna in the western and central Pacific Ocean, the source for more than half of the world's tuna. They also will take up management measures for several species of threatened sharks and explore possible solutions to illegal fishing.

Experts from Pew provided an overview of the key issues relating to tuna, sharks and illegal fishing.
