Testimony of Holly Binns before the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Feb. 2011

We urge the Commission to go with Option A, to keep the moratorium on goliath grouper harvest in place. For this species, it is particularly important to consider their life history and biology. Given what you heard about that today, and with all the uncertainty in the assessment, it would be a real mistake not to act cautiously and conservatively. It is also important to consider that you get a lot of your economic bang for the buck from this fish via the catch and release fishery that already exists and from their high ecotourism value.
